Robert C. Surrency
November 16, 1952 - October 11, 2024
Mr. Robert “Bobby” Clipsy Surrency, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA., on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 71. He was born on November 16, 1952, in Blackshear, GA to Robert Van Surrency and Katie Mae James Smiley. At a young age, Bobby relocated to Daytona Beach, FL with his father and bonus mother, Elmira Walker Surrency whom he adored. As a youngster, Bobby attended Volusia County and Hillsborough County Public Schools in Florida. Bobby enlisted in the United States Marine Corp Reserve in 1972; and, later worked as a Customer Service Specialist and in the Transportation Industry for several years in Jacksonville, FL and St. Petersburg, FL.
Bobby accepted Christ at an early age and always talked about his experiences growing up attending church and the impact it had on his life. Bobby was sincere about his Christian upbringing that his parents had instilled in him. During his younger years, He was a member of Gray Memorial Church of God in Christ in Daytona Beach, FL. In later years, his membership was with Bread of Life Christian Center in Columbus, GA. Many of his last conversations were about how he loved being in church and joining in with the older saints in praise and worship.
Bobby is preceded in death by his father, Robert V. Surrency, his mother Katie Smiley, his bonus mother Elmira W. Surrency, sister, Lillie C. Surrency Strickland, his brother, Stacey J. Surrency, Sr., and former wife and long-time friend Alice Springfield Surrency. He leaves to cherish his memories, son, Robert C. Surrency III (Jacksonville, FL), his daughter, Chloe Surrency (Columbus, GA); sisters, LaGretta Surrency (Atlanta, GA), LaShone “Tammy” Surrency (Gainesville, FL), Brigette Williams (Jacksonville, FL) and LaCelia Surrency Price (Atlanta, GA); and two grandchildren, Renard Surrency and Airelle Surrency both of Jacksonville, FL. Bobby also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of extended family members and friends.
