Richard William Jaeger
October 10, 1940 - March 14, 2024
Richard William Jaeger was born October 10, 1940, in Beloit, Wisconsin. Richard passed away on March 14, 2024, in Port Orange, Florida. His life was like his long-time byline Main Streets...side roads... He had a successful career as an investigative journalist for the Wisconsin State Journal. Richard’s journalistic ambitions started with the United States Army in 1958. After completing his tour with the military Richard spent over 25 years writing for the Wisconsin State Journal. Opening His home up to foreign exchange students gave his family a diverse pallet for great down-home cooking from many cultures. Creating a family dedicated to great food and fond memories. Throughout his life, Richard's focus was his loving wife Margaret, whom he was married to for 61 years. Together, they raised four children in their home on Main Street in Oregon Wisconsin, where they lived for over 40 years. Their children brought many joys and adventures, leading to the addition of 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Creating a network of side roads branching off from their Main Street. Richard and Margaret, affectionately known as Dick and Peg, cherished spending time with their family, exploring new cuisines, traveling, and particularly enjoyed camping. As they entered retirement, their side roads led them to become "snowbirds," dividing their time between Lake Delton, Wisconsin, and Melbourne Beach, Florida. As the years passed, their scenic side roads became well-traveled, eventually leading them to settle in Port Orange, Florida, where Richard, fondly called "Grandpa" by many, found his final resting place to witness his last sunset.
Traveling Home before him, his son-in-law Steve Watry.
Those who continue to travel the Main Streets and side roads with adventure in mind and love for him in their hearts. His loving wife Margaret "Peg" Jaeger; Dick and Peg's children; Theresa Watry (Steve), Rick Jaeger, John Jaeger, Julie Atkinson (Bill). Grandkids; Makenzie, Johnathan, Regina, Samantha, Joshua, Steven, Jacob, Hannah, Tara, Chazz, Janessa and Hope. Great grandkids; Loki, Viola, Justice, Julian, Silas, Jiraiya, Barrett, Aurora, Olivia, Jubillee, Abigail and Steven. And ALL the fantastic people we've met and loved along the way.
...for my door is always open to the traveler
