Darwin Dale Tennant, age 91, went home to be with his Lord on December 8, 2022 at Advent Health Deland, Deland Florida.
Darwin was born in Ellendale, North Dakota on January 11, 1931, the son of the late Fred Henry Tennant and the late Helen Leona Lewcox of North Dakota.
Darwin is survived by his loving wife, Carol; eight children- daughter Lynn Canby and husband, Benjamin; Darlene Blair;
Michael Tennant and wife, Gloria; Daleena Ansley and husband Thatcher; Nicole Wiltshire; Alyssa Tennant; and Katie Tennant; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Darwin is also survived by a sister, Delta Johnston and her husband, George and their family; a brother, SFC (Ret) Duran Tennant and his wife, Sandy and their family; an aunt, Arlene Oldenburg and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Major Darwin Tennant began his military career in 1947 at the end of World War II, enlisting in the Minnesota National Guard and later in the United States Army in 1949. He served as a noncommissioned officer in the Korean War with the 187th Regimental Combat Team. During the Korean conflict, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor. After Korea, he was stationed in Japan before returning to the United States. After graduating from Officer Candidate School in 1959, he went on to serve our country Stateside, Italy, and in the Vietnam War with the 82nd, and 101st Airborne Divisions. He retired in 1969 after serving 22 years.
After retiring from the Army, Darwin moved to Florida where he became a minister of the Gospel and started a church in Glenwood, the “Chapel on the Hill”.
Burial will be at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery with full Military Honors.
