February 06, 1925 - February 14, 2025
Mrs. Daisy Pope Baber affectionately known by many as “ Mother Dear” a long time resident and educator of Saginaw, Michigan made her transition to eternal life on Friday, February 14, 2025, at her residence in Daytona Beach, Florida at the age of 100.
Born Daisy Pope to the late Adam and Laura Pope in Havana, Florida as a third of 5 siblings. In her later years she married Frank Johnson (Deceased) and bore 2 children Frank and Estrella. As a family they moved to Saginaw, Michigan and acquired bonus parents Lonnie & Claudine Wicks. Under the musical training of Mommy Wicks she developed a singing voice that netted her the name of Saginaw’s Lena Horne. She became one of Saginaw’s most sought after vocalist for many events. Later in life she became a special education teacher after receiving her Bachelor of Arts and Masters from Michigan State University. During her teaching years she spent her summers traveling the world to destinations like France, Greece, Africa and Switzerland to name a few. She lived an adventurous life exploring the world she lived in. Upon retirement she decided to move back to Florida and continue her travels. The family gave her the nickname of Road Runner and World Traveler. She remained in Florida until her passing at 100 years old. She was a devout AKA member and Red Hatter until she could no longer participate. She loved everyone and the love was reciprocated.
Daisy is survived by her daughter Estrella Young, son Frankie Johnson II (Hildra Johnson), Grandsons Quentin Azama, Troy Johnson, Damon Johnson and Devon Johnson, Granddaughters Angelique Joe, Terri Johnson (Wendell) and Rhonda Johnson, Sister Mary Pope via (Thomas Pope) and many grandkids great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family, loved ones and friends along with a bonus daughter in Mattie Johnson and Granddaughter in Robin Young via (Johnathan Young).
Those who predeceased her include Adam & Laura Pope (Parents), Sammie Baber (Husband), Oscar Pope (Brother), Thomas Pope (Brother), Violet Andrews (Sister).
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private memorial service will be conducted at a later date to be announced.
