Calvin Stanley Grimes
December 12, 1958 - September 29, 2025
Calvin Stanley Grimes, age 66 of Daytona Beach, FL, peacefully transitioned to his FATHER’S house just as promised on Monday, September 29, 2025. A beloved son, brother, and friend, Calvin was born in Ormond Beach, FL, on Friday, December 12, 1958, to proud parents, the late Hannah Louise Grimes (Parks) and the late Jessie Edward Grimes Sr. Calvin was the third of eleven children in a close-knit and loving family. He found Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Halifax River by Reverend James Daniels.
Calvin spent his formative years in Ormond Beach, FL, where he was educated in the Volusia County school system. He attended Ormond Middle School and later Seabreeze High School, where he found joy and excellence in the game of baseball, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life.
In his early years, “Cal”, as he was affectionately known, faced significant challenges after the death of his father, and took on adult responsibilities well before his time. As life progressed, “Cal” found stability and purpose in his work, eventually dedicating over 20 years as a trusted and hardworking linen porter. He took great pride in his role, earning the respect of colleagues and leaving a lasting impression through his reliability, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Cal had a deep love for the game of billiards and was truly gifted at it; his shelves were lined with trophies from tournaments he dominated over the years. He played with quiet confidence and sharp skill. But beyond the pool table, some of his favorite moments were spent at home grilling for his family during one of his legendary backyard crab boils. He made everyone feel welcome and always made sure no one left hungry or without a few laughs. He loved his children with every part of himself, and it showed in the way he spoke about them with pride, tenderness, and a sparkle in his eye. Whether it was through a good story, a heartfelt talk, or a quiet exchange, he was the kind of man who left a lasting impression and irreplaceable void.
Calvin’ s life and character were a symbol of love, strength, and determination. He overcame many obstacles and rose to the occasion of being a loving and dedicated single parent to his youngest child, Hannah Grimes.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings: James Grimes, Larry Grimes, Laura Grimes, Jessie Edward Grimes Jr., Willie Grimes, Frederick Grimes, and Sharon Grimes. He is survived by his children: Tinessa Hoagan, Toni Clement, Hannah Grimes, and Michael Grimes; sisters: Blondell Ezell, Philise Grimes, and Lenore Hampton; brothers: Bruce Grimes (Tammy), Alphonso Hampton (Kim), and Roderick Hampton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and one uncle.
He will be sorely missed and forever remembered.
