Benjamin F. Broxton Sr.
September 6, 1936 - April 28, 2024
Benjamin F. Broxton Sr. of Daytona Beach, Florida answered the call of his Savior on, Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the prestigious age of 87.
Benjamin Franklin Broxton, Sr. was born in Caryville, Florida (Washington County), on September 6, 1936. He was the seventh of twelve children born to the union of Lemon Choice Broxton, Sr. and Mattie Gibson Broxton. He was married to Shirley Cooper and to this union were born two children: Bridgett Broxton (Lorenzo) and Benjamin Franklin “Stacy” Broxton, II (Nina). Added to the fold were Constance Harris Poitier (James) and Julius D. ”Juke” Peterson (Tangela). Ten grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was baptized at a young age at a creek on St. Mary Road and Wright Creek in Caryville. Ben attended and graduated from Roulhac High Chipley, FL where he was also a member of the basketball team for the Rouhlac Tigers.
With several titles, he was affectionately known as Uncle Frank, Uncle Ben to many and was a dedicated godfather.
He graduated from Bethune-Cookman College in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in education becoming the first and only one in his family to graduate from college and was a dedicated and Lifetime member of the Bethune-Cookman Alumni Association. He enjoyed attending the games in-town and out of town ringing his cowbells and wearing his lucky hat.
He was initiated into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in 1979. Ben taught in the public schools of Volusia County for over 37 ½ years. His life at his church meant everything to him, serving in every capacity possible, singing in the Sons of Allen (Church and District Choirs), Gospel Choir, Male Chorus, Outreach Ministry, Class Leader, Sexton, Transportation Ministry, Cook Ministry, Feeding and Delivery Ministry.
