Arthur Ramsey Obituary

Arthur C. Ramsey

December 20, 1946 - October 13, 2024

Arthur C. Ramsey 77, of Daytona Beach, Florida transitioned to be with the Lord on October 13, 2024.

Arthur (Art) was born in the Bronx, New York City to Arthur Sr. and Doris Ramsey. As a young child, his family relocated to Jamaica, Queens, NY. The family grew to include brothers; Robert (Bobby) and Arnold, sisters Barbara, Lestant, Donna, and Michelle. Arthur Sr. was an accomplished bassist, so it is not surprising that he passed his musical talent on to his sons. Many hours were spent in drum lessons and practice, and soon the Ramsey name became synonymous with high-level musicianship. All three brothers played multiple instruments and were proficient drummers. Art and Bobby played in several marching bands including the Drum & Bugle Corp at St Clements Pope School where they attended. Both Art and his brother Arnold went on to play professionally.

After attending John Adams High School, Art joined the US Air Force. He served 4 years as a Dental Lab technician helping injured servicemen during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home Art pursued his love of playing music. He and his best friend took jobs as roadie’s for the psychedelic soul group The Chambers Brothers. As luck would have it the ‘Brothers’ drummer quit, and Art readily stepped in as his replacement. While with the group they toured internationally in Europe and Japan and played dates in New York, Los Angeles, and other cities across the US. After his tenure with the group ended, Art settled in Seattle, Washington where he continued playing music. Eventually, music would land Art in beautiful Hawaii where he lived for several years before returning to New York to assist his parents and young sisters with their move to Daytona Beach, Florida. Art decided to stay in Daytona and pursue a career in law enforcement.

After completing the police academy Art became a patrol officer and later a traffic homicide investigator with Daytona Beach Police Department. He was well respected among his peers and superiors at the police department, later becoming one of the inaugural Beach Rangers patrolling the “World's Most Famous Beach”. In both positions, Officer Ramsey received countless letters of commendation for his service to the community. Ultimately, Art would work for and retire from the United States Postal Service where he was much beloved by coworkers and valued as a dedicated employee.

Art was predeceased by his brother Robert Ramsey.

Art is survived by his wife of 35 years; Heidi, his five children; daughters Camille Ramsey Vazquez (Ricardo) Joycia Chanel Ramsey, sons; Donald Ramsey, Jonathan Ramsey (Christina), and Alexander Ramsey (Alanna), twelve grandchildren, siblings; Lestant Barnes, Barbara Rodenbaugh (Hubert), Arnold Ramsey, Donna Ramsey Brown (Cedric), and Michelle Ramsey Johnson, countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
